Position Summary
The Engineering Technician (Carpenter) is responsible for the routine maintenance and repair of exhibit interactives, signage, lighting, and other display elements. This role ensures that exhibits, tools, and equipment remain organized and in optimal working condition. Key responsibilities include assisting the Exhibit and Life-Support Engineering (LSE) team with exhibit fabrication and installation, as well as working with other team members on regular exhibit upkeep tasks. The technician will also be accountable for maintaining all building surfaces such as plaster, drywall, millwork, and carpentry, and may be assigned to maintenance or life-support system projects as needed. The Senior Water Laboratory Technician is responsible for water testing all critical aquatic systems of the San Diego Zoo. The Position works closely with the Water Quality System Operators and Wildlife Care Team members to facilitate healthy environments for our diverse living collection and our guests. This position performs essential job functions in accordance with the standards of accrediting bodies, including Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) and County of San Diego Department of Environmental Health and Quality. This position maintains and calibrates all water analytical equipment that is necessary to complete water testing. The Senior Water Laboratory Technician reports to the Construction and Maintenance Manager (Water Quality).
